Farewell to Oak Portal!

Over the years many people in Hereford & beyond have come to know a very special piece of furniture art displayed in Timothy Hawkins Gallery – the magnificent Oak Portal wardrobe, its presence far greater than its actual size, large though it is!

It will soon be leaving the gallery in Church Street, Hereford in preparation for its journey to the home of collectors who already own some of Tim’s more unusual pieces of furniture.

Tim felt that it would be appropriate, given his thinking behind the design, to mark Oak Portal’s departure with a fund-raising event for St. Michael’s Hospice – a special place which has given solace to so many over the years & for which he has in the past created a few bespoke pieces, the most recent of these being a tree-themed altar table for the ‘quiet’ room.

The evening event on Thursday the 25th of August will offer an opportunity to learn from designer maker Tim the full story of this unique piece of furniture (originally made for an exhibition) as well as a chance to hear about some of the commissions which it has generated over the years.

As the gallery is only large enough to accommodate around fifty people at any one time then that number of advance bookings will be taken on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, on or after Thursday the 18th of August.

The entire £10.00 admission price will go to the hospice & must be paid to the gallery in advance of the event, either by calling in or by making payment over the ‘phone* to 01432 507007 between 10.30a.m. & 4.30p.m.

Alternatively, please send an email (to info@finefurniture.co.uk) if you wish to make a direct BACS payment.

Your £10.00 donation to gain admission to this event will provide you with a glass of wine (or a soft drink) & includes the price of a raffle ticket which may win you a bottle of Champagne or a runner-up prize – the draw will take place during the latter part of the evening.

The work of St. Michael’s Hospice is funded entirely by charitable donations & we hope, even if you will be unable to come to the fund-raising evening (or if tickets have sold out) that you may still wish to support the invaluable work of this incredibly special place by contacting their fund-raising team & making a donation in respect of this event, in which case Timothy Hawkins will be pleased to send you Oak Portal’s background story after the 25th of August.
