Artist Engineer Maker
Simon initially trained as a mechanical engineer before taking an art foundation course, then going on to complete a Fine Art Sculpture degree course.
He now combines both disciplines in the metal artwork he creates & his sculptures encompass a broad mixture of figurative, abstract & kinetic sculpture as well as ‘found object’ constructions.
Simon is concerned with form & function, whilst humour also plays a strong part in his work & he believes that art should be pleasurable & rewarding – because he enjoys it and because of all the emotions that are brought into play he feels it is possibly the most constructive method of communication.
For him, the point of art is not intrinsic with topic, form, style or motivation but is an opportunity to break from the everyday and the functional – it is an excuse to stand and contemplate, a distraction that should allow us to return to our lives with fresh eyes and good humour.
