I like to develop an initial idea, sketch or photograph to a finished construction.
I focus on developing the inherent patterns in natural forms and the landscape and have a particular fondness for woodland and trees – I find collagraphs are ideal for this way of working.
I print in black and white and then hand colour my images, which makes each one unique.
I begin with a piece of mounting card, then add wood glue washes to create areas of light tones and carborundum grit for dark areas.
I use collage materials and cut and peel lines to create a finished intaglio plate.
I find this an exciting medium to work with – there is always something new to try and, as with all printmaking, the results are full of surprises!
