Julia designs and engraves glassware because she loves the quality of light through colour and because she wants to produce accessible and decorative work that people will enjoy seeing and owning.
The patterns which she develops are always drawn directly from nature & Julia likes to follow the flow of the handmade glass, feeling that naturalistic images compliment that rather than fighting against it.
She draws inspiration from a microscopic form to the cosmos, but does have a particularly strong attraction to anything aquatic.
Julia’s lead crystal bowls are blown to her own specification, with one or two thin layers of colour on the inside surface of the bowl.
She then draws and applies a unique stencil to each piece, through which she can sandblast the pattern into the surface of the glass, the etched design generally being simplified or stylised motifs on one theme, such as dragonflies or fish.
