Alison’s passion is and has always been a creative one – she trained in Art and Ceramic Design at Stourbridge, then at Hereford College of Art before going on to work for several ceramic producers, including Boehm of Malvern.
Following a course in Tube Lined tile decoration at Jackfield Tile Museum she set up on her own, producing mainly designs for ceramic fireplace tiles.
Alison’s strengths and interests are in applied art.
She now produces designs on various pieces using her knowledge of ceramic decoration & she likes to experiment with her own glazes, combining more than one form of decoration on each piece.
Using metal pigments, glass beads, underglaze and on-glaze mediums Alison combines these with Tube Lining to create different effects, never really knowing the final result until opening the kiln after firing.
The shape and form of each ceramic piece very much influences Alison’s final design & all her work reflects her love of the natural world and of landscape.
Using the beautiful colours and reflective qualities of ceramic glazes she tries to capture atmosphere in her landscapes with sunshine, shadow, wind and waves bringing each piece to life, the Tube Lining technique giving another dimension of depth and detail.
